…▽ Welcome to Glow Job ▽…
We will be coming together on and off playa to bring Glow Job back to Black Rock City for a third time! Before you go any further, read our camp placement application here if you haven’t already.
Glow Job is a queertastic blend of makers and booty shakers. Equal parts of living your dayglo truth and helping others find theirs is what this camp is all about. We are a homobase for our Glow Job crew and also an interactive destination showing our glowing adoration for fellow burners.
Our neon odyssey continues…
▽… Our social contract …▽
The goal of this social contract is to make sure we all have an awesome time together on and off playa. By entering this agreement, you are hereby committing to a lot of YAY, WOW and FUCK YEAH!
Consider it a living, breathing extension of the camp itself, open to evolving and growing in ways that will improve everyone’s overall experience. This contract and the camp itself are works in progress.
The central tenet is: everyone’s input and contributions are integral for bringing our neon Glow Job fantasy to life on and off playa.
If you see something that could be improved or requires attention, say something…We will all be better for it!
▽… What’s expected from each camper…▽
- Commit early
- We understand your need to be flexible in planning whether/how to get to Black Rock City, but camp needs to know how many campers we are.
- Please communicate about your situation and commit to going as early as you can.
- Please pay dues as early as you can.
- Don’t make us guess about your plans.
- Pay camp dues – $300–350
- What’s given here is a range, for two reasons:
- Dues are directly tied to the budget and number of campers going to playa, and neither are 100% final
- Choosing to pay more than the minimum helps us set aside money to defray dues for campers who may need help this year
- Your fees are required once you sign this letter of intent, and due no later than July 31.
- People who haven’t paid dues by August 1 will not camp with us this year.
- Help paying dues
- We don’t want dues to be the reason you can’t camp with us. If you need to adjust your dues amount, we will help. It’s a confidential process. Contact the Den Mother (Thilo) and let him know what help you need.
- Your dues cover our budget for the year. You can see the budget here.
- Budget planning, dues surplus and refunds:
- We set general budgeting before we know final camper numbers, and decide budget goals as a group. If a surplus emerges before playa, we will decide as a group what we put these funds towards
- Final budget decisions happen after we are back from the playa and all expenses are tabulated. In post-playa meetings we’ll decide what to do with any remaining funds.
- Participate by taking on roles and shared work
- We value all contributions that make camp work and we try to find creative ways to share workloads fairly.
- We come from a wide geographical region and can’t all do the same things before, on, or after playa
- Our goal with sharing work is to prioritize fairness and prevent burnout, recognizing that there are lots of ways to be involved
- There are lots of ways to contribute no matter where you live
- The main way people volunteer to help is by taking on roles
- We expect each camper to participate off and on playa
- You will choose your roles and communicate them to the larger group
- You are expected to actively participate in clarifying your roles and tackling projects
- You don’t have to do anything alone or without help
- Support each other
- Our camp is a home base for solo and shared adventures, and relies on shared work and mutual emotional support. You don’t have to become best friends with everyone in camp, but you need to try to be emotionally available, patient, curious and supportive.
- The way we camp together on playa is spelled out in How we camp
▽… What camp provides …▽
- Common supplies and infrastructure
- Camp infrastructure includes: shade structure, kitchen, shower, water, power, some furniture, lights, first aid supplies, and decor
- Some drinks: soda, water, coffee, beer, gatorade
- Check the current camp inventory here to see the supplies available for your use
- Logistics and trucking
- Camp rents a truck to take common and personal items from the Bay area to Black Rock City
- We need to know what you plan to put on the truck in case it doesn’t all fit
- Equal and fair part of a home on playa
- Nobody is more a part of Glow Job than you
- Nobody’s burn is burnier than yours
- Help when you need it
- We will try to give you a safe home base on playa, and enough emotional support and encouragement to help you make Burning Man what you need it to be
- On and off playa, we will collectively strategize to help you execute your role as needed
